Cause of Flooding:
What is Flooded:
"Estimated water depth: 2-8in. This photo was taken at the corner of Amber St and Loring Ave in East NY. This street is disconnected from NYC's municipal storm water system relying on cesspools for sewage storage that often overflow polluting the area. (This area is also known as the South Jewel Streets). This road ponding was still present after more than 24 hours without any precipitation and on a sunny 68ºF day. The street was impassible for cars who opted to skirt the narrow sidewalk pavement with the passenger side of the vehicles dipping slightly into the water instead of plowing through the large puddle. There was not enough space for both pedestrians and vehicles to pass each other. The road conditions are not ideal with many potholes and cracked pavement present as well as litter strewn and intermixed with mud and the partially paved, uneven street. There is not a dedicated sidewalk on the east side of the street separated from the traffic lane as well as on the west side. Cars park perpendicularly to the narrow walkway on the west side of Amber Street. The west side of the street's topography slopes upwards slightly and the north end at the junction with Linden Blvd (NY rt 27) rises up sharply to sea level with the rest of the street grid."
