The Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean (MARCO) Recreation workgroup seeks to identify, characterize, and share information about measures to maintain the recreational value of important non-consumptive recreational areas and the activities they sustain. MARCO is collecting information on the what, where, when, how people are enjoying Mid-Atlantic coastal areas, and what wildlife people are encountering in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Information on wildlife is helpful for state planners and provides information that can help understand how to reduce risks to wildlife that are so valuable to the enjoyment of these areas.
The Mid-Atlantic coast and ocean provide many opportunities for recreation – activities like boating, surfing, wildlife viewing, hiking, and more draw tourists from near and far, and contribute significantly to the region’s coastal economy. You can learn more about the Recreation work group’s projects here. MARCO is excited to partner with MyCoast to learn more about recreational use for prioritizing spatial planning throughout the five Mid-Atlantic states.
