Street/Road: Unspecified

Marinas and Harbors
Buildings
Hazardous Materials

State: Accessible

Coastal Structures

Specific Damage:

  • Damaged stairs/walkovers

Comments: This is damage to a boardwalk constructed by DEEP State Parks seaward of a sand dune despite the advice of the Coastal Management Program to construct the boardwalk behind the dune. The public's desire to walk on a beach boardwalk was the compelling reason to build the boardwalk in a high hazard area. This is damage caused by Hurricane Irene, which had a surge return frequency on the order of 10 years.
