Hi Jane, I was going back through some older reports from when we were experiencing technical difficulties with the comment feature on the website. It is many months late at this point, but now that we are able to comment on reports again I wanted to give you an answer to your ID question! The questionable molt you found is not a European green crab but a purple shore crab (Hemigrapsus nudus) even though this particular crab is not purple in color! Thanks to your great photos I was able to determine the ID by the three rounded/flattened marginal teeth on each side of the crab’s carapace compared to the five sharp/serrated marginal teeth on each side of a European green crab’s carapace. I will update your report and make it public! Thanks for keeping a look out in Port Townsend! — Elyse
