Discussions of dealing with the flooding have dealt with adding sensors to monitor the water level and close the road when it is in danger of flooding.
That may solve the safety concerns and keep people from driving into the pond, but it will not solve the flooding even in the short term. In order to solve the flooding issue, one needs to limit the water levelor rais the road. That is pretty obvious, and tidal flow is necessary to maintain the health of Gooseberry Pond. In fact, locals have claimed that there is not enough flow inti the inner pond to keep it healthy. I cannot comment on that.
But to the only solution to prevent flooding is to keep the water flow below the road. Namely, put tide gates in the culvert at Ocean Drive where the dam used to be, and use tide water sensors to close the gates when the water lever exceeds an acceptable level. This will prevent the water in the pond from getting high enough to flood over the road. One could of course raise the level of the road higher, but that would require widening the base or narrowing the road, which is already down to one lane. But I think flood control gates are more practical.
